Our ambition
Is to develop and provide strategic financial management, analysis and initiatives to support science and operations to deliver BAS’s mission.
Our main priority is to ensure business sustainability through robust financial management and business planning. We achieve this by supporting senior management teams and budget holders; reviewing our cost base and supporting income generation and funding diversification.
We work closely with colleagues in NERC Swindon to deliver their corporate objectives.
Team priorities
- Provide strategic financial information and analysis to executive, management and project teams
- Ensure effective financial control of the budget partitioned between Antarctic Logistics and Infrastructure (ALI) and non-ALI
- Expert input to budget holders to ensure robust financial planning, reporting, forecasting, modelling and monitoring
- Review and model the cost base to ensure value for money and a robust use of public funds
- Review income generation bids to ensure full cost recovery and risk mitigation and support funding diversification
- Develop and motivate a high performing finance team to provide a full and timely service delivery to all stakeholders
- Engage with NERC Swindon Office, other NERC centres and the Shared Business Centre (UKSBS) to ensure strategic financial management and control
- Embed business finance partnering focused on business sustainability to ensure that BAS and NERC interests are protected
- Develop and implement policy and procedures
Technology, innovation and training
- Deliver comprehensive training programs for Finance and non-Finance users
- Provide professional support for financial corporate systems
- Generate added value management information
Influencing and leading international programmes
- Support international income generation and funding diversification
Stakeholder engagement
- Develop strong relationships with NERC, as our leading funder and parent organisation and other NERC centres
- Support key external stakeholders e.g. the EU
- Reinforce relationships with delivery partners e.g. UK Shared Business Services.
